Japanese Garden – Cowra

Whilst living in Japan, I was on a mission to visit as many castles and gardens as I could. I was captivated by the gardens. They were so different to any kind of garden I’d seen before. I was blown away by the intentional journey the paths led you on and how the hedges were… Read more »

Thyme to Taste

I love fine food – not necessarily expensive food. Expensive doesn’t always guarantee good quality. It’s often difficult to find a truly good cafe in country towns. Especially when you’ve been spoilt in Sydney. But Thyme to Taste in Yass the is a lovely surprise. Before children, I regularly sampled many fine eating establishments in… Read more »

For Everything There Is A Season

Sometimes it’s the simple things… One of the things I love most about living in a rural area is watching the seasons change. Seasons hold much more meaning in rural areas as so much depends on the weather. The trees that line the driveway are taking their cue from one of the trees at the… Read more »

Yass Show & Rodeo

We have had a busy few weeks of medical appointments and lots of hospital visits for testing with our son, so I’ve been a little slack on the blogging front. But I didn’t want to bypass a quick entry on the Yass Show and Rodeo. My husband’s brother’s family came up for the weekend. My… Read more »

Making Friends Is Really Difficult (especially when you’re two)

As a teacher, it breaks your heart watching the politics of friendship play out. Children, without even trying, can be really cruel. You see perfectly lovely, funny and children I would love to call my own, struggle to make friends. Especially when friendship groups have already been established. The older the children get, the more… Read more »

We Have Arrived!

It’s been a while. There is lots to tell but I thought I would start with a little insight into our new life in the Yass Valley. We had a few hiccups when we arrived. Not having rented before in Australia (I did when I lived in Japan), this has been a learning curve in… Read more »

The Countdown

It’s getting a little serious and quite panicky in our house. This time next week I will be spending my first night in our rental in Yass. Of course there is some nervous excitement too! As the pictures come off the walls and the boxes fill our house, the reality of what we’re doing is undeniable.
